The mine field that is being Transgender is the outside sources of hate. These sources can and do come from Family, Friends, Peers, Work place, Online, Social Circles, and even Religious organizations. These pressure at times can become overwhelming leading to thoughts of suicide or even succeeding in it.

The Centre for Suicide Prevention gave some numbers that we should be aware of in a post on their site [Link]. I would encourage you to take the time and read it. But to sum it up a little bit lets look at this simple picture that they created.

What is not talked about in this picture is the positive results of Medical Transition that the rate of 43% drops to 3%. But there are still stress factors that once again increase this risk after Medical Transition. Which remain the same as above. But they do not increase the risk factor to 43%.

Now in no way do I advocate for every person who is Transgender to seek Medical Transition to solve other problems in life. A successful Transition is more than just one thing. If your mental health is affected by environmental issues those issues will still be there during and after medical transition. Take the time seek professional help where it is needed. Make some hard choices such as do you have a support network. Do you have secure employment that supports your Transition. Do you have a safe place to live? All of these issues are just a tip of the iceberg to creating a successful transition.
